WONDERS OF THANET’S COAST CAUGHT ON CAMERA
Club Treasurer John Draper from Broadstairs is an exceptional photographer of the natural world and recently gave a talk to members about his project examining the coastline from Foreness Point to Ramsgate.
John showed some stunning images from around 900 that he had taken, including the wide range of birds, invertebrates and sea life to be found on the shoreline, particularly in the inter-tidal zone.
John had invested in an underwater camera so that he could take a closer look at what was going on beneath the surface, but emphasised the need to be cautious and not disturb the wild creatures as Thanet’s chalk coast is uncommon and internationally recognised for its special qualities.
Quietly sitting during the incoming tide then seeing what is left as it turns is a great way of spending time observing the birds and many small creatures that inhabit the seashore.
Three of the images taken by John are attached and may inspire people to look more closely at their local beach, taking care not to disturb our precious wildlife.
Our club is open to all, whether new to photography or more advanced.
There is something to inspire everyone to become a better photographer – and we have groups dedicated to nature, street and analogue photography.
