The Isle of Thanet Photographic Society - Thanet's Camera Club

The roots of the Society can be traced back to 1888. Meetings then took place in Ramsgate and membership was in excess of 100. It is thought that the Society ceased around 1914 due to the First World War but was revived in 1947 by Frank Matthews - later to become Mayor of Margate in 1978 - following an advert placed in the Isle of Thanet Gazette. It was then known as Margate Camera Club before changing to the Isle of Thanet Photographic Society, and nowadays more commonly referred to as Thanet's Camera Club.

Today we are still a thriving club, and our ethos remains the same:

  • to encourage members in their photography
  • to provide informative and entertaining talks from both external invited speakers and members
  • to enhance skills through practical demonstrations
  • to learn from viewing member's images being critiqued in club competitions
  • and finally, most of all, to inspire - and have some fun!

Meetings are held between September and June each year, on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm at the Portland Centre, Hopeville Avenue, St Peters, Broardstairs CT10 2TR

During the Summer break photographic outings and projects are arranged for members. Details of these get posted on our website, emailed out to members and to those on our WhatsApp group.
